Vanquish VQ70 vs Wajer 77: Fast Walkaround Day Yacht Comparison

By Daniel Rosua, Yacht Broker · IYBA Member · Updated October 10, 2026 · 3 min read

Full disclosure: I know the Vanquish team, and their US office is on Las Olas near mine. The Vanquish VQ70 and the Wajer 77 are two of the most talked-about big day yachts: fast, social, built around the deck, with enough below to stay the weekend. Here's how they compare on the builders' own figures.

Vanquish VQ70

Speed, shallow draft and two tender garages

Up to 48 knots (Vanquish estimate, lightweight condition) on twin MAN V12s and waterjets, a 1.19 m draft, an aluminum hull and two tender garages.

Wajer 77

Range data, quiet cruising and a full spec sheet

37 top and 25 cruise (IPS 1350), 350 nm of range, a yacht Wajer calls the most silent in her class, and suites for six plus crew.

Why this pair

Both are fast walkaround day yachts of 22 to 23.5 m with a tender carried aboard and suites below for overnight guests. The VQ70 is aluminum on twin waterjets; the Wajer 77 runs on three Volvo Penta IPS pods.

Vanquish states that the VQ70's top speed and weight are estimates in lightweight condition, and calls it a 70-foot yacht although its published length is 22.00 m (72.18 ft). Wajer lists 3 × IPS 1200 as standard but quotes its top speed, cruise speed and fuel burn for the optional IPS 1350s, and doesn't say which package its 350 nm range assumes.

Deck and tenders

  • VQ70: Vanquish pitches it as superyacht presence with day-boat ease, and it's endlessly customizable.
  • VQ70: a very wide walkaround deck, an open-air cinema and two tender garages. Don't need both? Remove one for more interior space.
  • Wajer 77: circular seating and sunpads forward, sofas and dining aft, a wet bar with grill and ice maker, and a Williams 325 jet tender aboard. The aft table lowers into a lounge bed.
  • Wajer 77: side boarding to the swim platform, a hydraulic gangway aft and push-button inflatable fenders.

Below deck

  • VQ70: 3 or 4 cabins, your choice, with a full-beam owner's cabin amidships, over 2 m of standing height and a private en suite. A lounge converts into a guest cabin. The interior is fully bespoke.
  • Wajer 77: three suites for six with privacy glass and electric blinds, a galley with a breakfast bar, and a crew cabin with its own bathroom, reached through deck hatches. The forward junior suite has 2.35 m of standing height.

Performance and handling

  • VQ70: twin MAN V12 2,000 hp with MJP waterjets, up to 48 knots (estimate, lightweight condition) and 6,500 L of fuel. Vanquish lists a Seakeeper stabilizer.
  • Wajer 77: three IPS pods, 37 top and 25 cruise with the IPS 1350s and 350 nm of range. Joystick, optional Dynamic Positioning, a 360° camera and an optional gyro stabilizer.
  • So: the VQ70 is quicker on paper and draws less; the Wajer publishes cruise speed, range and fuel burn, which makes trip planning easier.

Ownership and resale

  • Draft: 1.19 m vs 1.80 m is a real difference in the Bahamas and on shallow Florida approaches.
  • Engines: waterjets and IPS pods each need specialist service. Ask for the service history and the hours on each engine.
  • Aluminum care: an aluminum hull needs proper isolation and attention to the anodes; a good surveyor checks both.
  • Resale: condition, engine package, service records and options matter most on custom-finished yachts like these.
